Chicago firefighter struck by truck while riding motorcycle recovers $700,000
A 40-year-old Chicago fire fighter was riding to work on his motorcycle on a busy Chicago expressway when the driver of a tractor-trailer truck changed lanes and struck him. The truck driver did not stop after the collision. However, there was a witness to the accident, who reported it to the police. Shortly thereafter, the driver was arrested while still in traffic.
The firefighter suffered severe injuries to his legs when the rear wheels of the trailer rolled over them. Accordingly, the Scanlan Law Group filed a negligence action against the driver and the trucking company that employed him. Despite clear evidence that the driver’s negligence was the cause of the accident, the defendants refused to settle the case. Accordingly, Edmund Scanlan tried the case before a jury and obtained a $700,000 verdict in favor of the fire fighter.
